USS Pampanito control room - Control Room on the USS Pampanito. USS Pampanito (SS-383) is a restored World War II Balao class submarine now at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf. The red lighting was employed in control rooms in submarines of this era to allow for crew to adjust their eyes more quickly to the dark.
